PLATO, the Participatory Learning and Teaching Organization, promotes opportunities for intellectual and cultural enrichment for the senior community.                                     


PLATO is a member-directed participatory learning-in-retirement organization committed to develop and provide learning, teaching, and social opportunities for its members in association with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and to provide scholarship support for returning adult students or such other charitable purposes as the Board of Directors may determine.                


  • Foster active participation by all members in planning and conducting learning and teaching events in a variety of formats.

  • Provide member-designed and member-led study and discussion groups, lectures, tours and other learning events.

  • Maintain a creative member-driven organization with independent control of its finances, curriculum and administration in association with the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

  • Provide an open and welcoming social environment for new and continuing members as they learn, share and teach.

  • Keep members fully informed about PLATO‚Äôs programs, operations, and finances through traditional and emerging communications media.

  • Collaborate with other entities serving senior learners.
