Festival Overview

  •  Algoma Sneak Peak – August 3
    • Majestic tall ships sail to the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Race finish line, mustering off shore before heading to Sturgeon Bay
  • Sturgeon Bay Parade of Sail – August 3
    • Vintage tall ships sail through and dock overnight before heading to the main event in Green Bay
  • Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival® Green Bay – August 5-7
    • Friday – Noon to 8pm with fireworks at 9pm
    • Saturday – 9am-4pm
    • Sunday – 9am-5pm

Green Bay is celebrating the return of the Tall Ship Festival® presented by Baylake Bank. Once again it’s expected to be one of the largest outdoor events in Northeast Wisconsin. Green Bay is one of only nine ports in the USA and Canada and the only one in Wisconsin honored to host the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Great Lakes 2016.

We have organized two ways to visit and experience this exciting international sailing event:

  • Friday, August 5 day trip. Visit Festival Noon-6:45 PM including option to sail on a tall ship and/or tour them moored at the dock.
  • August 3-7 with overnight stay(s) and travel on your own to the Hampton Inn ($99/night) located across the Fox  River from the Festival docks grounds at Leicht Park. This option will provide more time to enjoy the Festival and the other Green Bay attractions, as you wish.  For more information and how to register, go to: http://www.platomadison.org/event-2231633

Three tall ships will offer 90 minute public sails ($60) at three separate schedules during our visit.

Please Note: You must purchase your own public sail ticket . Purchase tickets soon before they are gone, as demand will surely grow as summer approaches. (See purchase instructions and tips with each ship below.)


1. When and If
Smaller, two-masted vessel  offering afternoon public sails at 12:15, 2:00 and 4:15. Order tickets here. Select Price Level  (pull down menu) for scheduled times.

TIP: Best choice is 4:15 to provide both a large, continuous block of time to visit the Festival grounds and better chance for stronger late afternoon winds.


2. Appledore IV

Smaller, two-masted vessel  offering afternoon public sails at 12:15, 2:00 and 4:15. Order tickets here. Select Price Level  (pull down menu) for scheduled times.

TIP: Best choice is 4:15 to provide both a large, continuous block of time to visit the Festival grounds and better chance for stronger late afternoon winds.


3. Windy
Large, four-masted vessel  offering afternoon public sails at 1:15, 3:00 and 4:45. Order tickets here. Select Price Level  (pull down menu) for scheduled times.

TIP: Best choice is 4:45 to provide both a large, continuous block of time to visit the Festival grounds and better chance for stronger late afternoon winds.

Accessibility Policy. You must be able to board and exit the bus using its stairs. If you need assistance, we recommend that you bring a friend to give you a hand.   

Non-Member Policy.   Members must register their guests. Each PLATO member is entitled to bring one non-member guest per bus trip. Non-member guests pay an additional $15.00 registration fee. PLATO Membership is $60.00/year.

Please Note:
Members may bring more than one guest near the registration deadline and if space is available. Check with trip organizer.

Itinerary

Bear in mind that our boarding bus route is like Madison Metro or any other municipal bus service. Please arrive early at your boarding stop so you don’t miss the bus. When everyone is aboard and seated, we leave. If everyone does that, we will all arrive in Green Bay on time to begin our adventure.

– Don’t be late. We can wait just 5 minutes at any one location.

– Pack water bottles and snacks for sustenance on the journey.


Leave Madison

8:15 AM           Bus arrives at Oakwood Village to begin boarding.

8:45 AM           Bus arrives at Capitol Lakes for loading.

9:10 AM           Bus arrives at East Towne Shopko for loading.

                                     

In Green Bay

12:00 PM       Bus arrive as Festival grounds open.
