The course will cover a description of the main mental illnesses (SMI); what treatments are most helpful; the impact of SMIs on the family. Participants will be encouraged to state their main interests in the areas of mental illnesses and we will cover them in the presentations. Topics will include: I) Historical background of Serious Mental Illnesses around the world; II) What are the main SMIs? A description of the illnesses; III) What we know, to date, about how to treat the illnesses; IV) SMIs in children, the middle-aged and the elderly; and,  V) Impact of SMIs on the family.
