This course will follow the development of Modernism from the 1900s to the 1980s. Each session will offer participants a chance to focus on a few works of art related interest. We will consider the immediate impact of the art by looking and responding to the work itself, the context in which it was created and its influence on subsequent art by comparison with other works in the collection.  Underlying each discussion is the belief that the visual arts are essential in understanding and bringing clarity to our own time.
