This will be an interactive class where you and I will actually read Shakespeare together, sometimes out loud, to relish the Bard’s beautiful language and complex ideas. We will also do a bit of “putting a scene on its feet” by acting out small parts of scenes where ever we find those that capture our mutual interest, and then viewing selected filmed scenes to see how the pros interpreted scenes we did. We will read a selection of the sonnets and a few of his plays. Samples include: King Lear,Richard III,Othello,Twelfth Night, Midsummer’s Night’s DreamHamlet. The group will help decide specific titles at the first session. As we get comfortable with reading and discussing Shakespeare, we might also select one of the lesser-known plays.
