Each semester we discuss a novel, selected poetry, and a drama. The novel will be Philip Roth’s American Pastoral, “an elegy for the American century’s promises of prosperity, civic order, and domestic bliss,"  considered one of the greatest works of American fiction in the last 25 years. Poetry will be taken from The Seashell Anthology of Great Poetry. The drama will be A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to be read less for the drama than for the dialog that includes many of Shakespeare’s most notable quotes.
