Reading poetry is an adventure in renewal, a creative act, a perpetual beginning, a rebirth of Wonder” (E. Hirsch). We will read and analyze a variety of poems and poetic styles through lectures and discussions. Our text is How to Read a Poem by Edward Hirsch – Harvest-Harcourt books, 1999- ($16). This book contains an excellent glossary, also available in a separate larger type format by the same author- The Essential Poet's Glossary, Houghton-Mifflin, 2017- ($16). For the first class read the preface and Chapter One in How to Read a Poem.
