Each semester we discuss a novel, selected poetry, and a drama. The novel will be John Steinbeck’s classic, East of Eden, described as his most ambitious novel and considered by Steinbeck to be his magnum opus. Poetry will be taken from The Seashell Anthology, Christopher Burns, Ed. The drama will be Arcadia, by Tom Stoppard, concerning the relationship between past and present, order and disorder, certainty and uncertainty, praised as the finest play from one of the most significant contemporary playwrights in the English language, and named as one of the best science-related works ever written. Reading expected, the discussion always lively.
