Join us as we visit the nation’s largest freshwater and cattail marsh, which is also an excellent birding site with over 300 bird species known to visit. First we will go to Horicon Marsh Boat Tours at Blue Heron Landing in Horicon on the South end and see a short film on the marsh. Next we will take a 2 hour partially covered pontoon boat ride into the heart of the marsh with a nature guide helping us to see and identify birds and wildlife. After this we’ll head to Waupun where we will have an all-included buffet lunch. And finally we will head to the private Marsh Haven Nature Center on the North end of the marsh. There we will stay about an hour and people can either visit the nature center exhibits, and/or take a mostly flat and easy 1 hour boardwalk and lawn walk. The walk will be led by a naturalist and we will be monitoring the 40 plus nests in the preserve and seeing what wildlife are choosing to raise their young there.

You must be able to climb steps to board the bus and exit the bus. There are very few other steps, but you must be able to board the flat boat from a landing. The walk at Marsh Haven is optional, but if you go on it, note that it will be on cut grass, mostly flat but a small amount of uneven terrain, and a boardwalk.
Bear in mind that our boarding bus route is like Madison Metro or any other municipal bus service. Please arrive early at your boarding stop so you don’t miss the bus. When everyone is aboard and seated, we leave.
– Don’t be late. We can wait just 5 minutes at any one location.
– Pack water bottles and snacks for sustenance on the journey. T he lunch is already included in the cost of the trip.
— Bring binoculars if you have them!
— Bring raingear and comfortable walking shoes as the tour will go, rain or shine. Of course truly inclement weather may force us to omit the boat ride.
