Continuing Philosophy

The class will be continuing to read and discuss Physics and Philosophy by Sir James Jeans. Jeans provides an overview of the history of philosophy as an attempt to understand what the world is like, why it is that way and how do we know these things. He then critiques those ideas in light of the discoveries made possible by the invention of the microscope and the telescope – the worlds of the very small and the very big. If this sounds fascinating – and it is – contact either Jim Halloran or Ed Cothroll to find out where the class is in the book and how much of it you should probably read to get up to speed.
