This event is free and open to the public.

Join us January 18, 2017 at Capitol Lakes, at 2 pm. as Jessie Garcia, author and sportscaster, presents her new book: Going for Wisconsin Gold; Stories of Our State Olympians

Wisconsin has nurtured, trained, or schooled more than 450 Olympic athletes in a vast array of sports -- from weightlifter Oscar Osthoff to speed skater Dan Jansen and from gymnast Paul Hamm to sailor Buddy Melges.  Jessie Garcia provides insights into lives of Wisconsinites who made an Olympic journey, sharing some of their most captivating tales, from legendary feats to unlikely brushes with glory. Featuring the athletes' personal stories and pictures from private collections, Going for Wisconsin Gold  provides a new and deeper understanding of the sacrifices, joy, pain, heartbreak, and complete dedication it takes to reach the Olympics.

Speaker: Jessie Garcia, is a Madison native who now lives and teaches journalism in the Milwaukee area.  An award-winning sportscaster Ms. Garcia has been covering Wisconsin athletes and Olympians since 1992, first at WISC-TV in Madison and then at WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee.
