Join us Sunday, February 18 for our sixth play of the PLATO 2017-2018 nine-play Milwaukee theater trip series with Black Pearl Sings performed in true cabaret fashion in the newly remodeled Stackner Cabaret.

The Song is the Story

Music unites strangers and bridges racial divisions in this powerful story based on real life events. It’s 1933, and an ambitious song collector for the Library of Congress visits a Texas prison where she meets Pearl, an African-American woman with a soulful voice and steely spirit. Featuring more than a dozen beautiful a cappella renditions of spirituals and American folk songs, Black Pearl Sings! explores what it means to be a woman in a man’s world, being black in a white world, and fighting for one’s soul in a world where anyone can be a commodity.

BroadwayWorld describes the play as “…a vivid reminder that the things that connect us are often stronger than the things which divide us.”

"★★★★★ - A wonderful jewel box of a show!" — Washington Weekly

Video Preview: Black Pearl Sings (1.21)

Black Pearl Sings will be staged in the intimate Stackner Cabaret. For information including photos about this unique theater venue, click here.

The Stackner Cabaret is handicapped accessible to the main level tables and chairs. The backs of the chairs provide good step-down/step-up support.
