DID YOU KNOW? for December 30, 2025 – January 12, 2026
Literacy Network serves approximately 1,400 adults each year in Dane County, Wisconsin. Nearly all of their students come from low-income households and are people of color. With approximately 400 annual volunteers, they help adults improve their skills in English language communications, reading comprehension, and use of information technology. As a result, they advance their careers, help their kids succeed in school, become U.S. citizens, understand health information, or obtain their high school diploma or other degrees.
Literacy Network is one of the four local educational programs for youth and adults that PLATO's Education Fund supports on an annual basis. Click here to read thank you letters we have received from Literacy Network students whose lives have been transformed through the gift of education that PLATO members help provide through their annual donations to the PLATO Education Fund.
During the past 13 years the PLATO Education Fund has granted over $400,000 to fund scholarships for returning adult students at UW-Madison, as well as support for the Odyssey Project, the Badger Ready Program and local educational programs for youth and adults which currently include CLIMB USA, Literacy Network, Lussier Community Education Center, and Maydm.
