Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras (WYSO) Center for Music Tour
Monday, June 10 from 2:00-3:15
Free to PLATO members and guests.
Registration is required.
Join us for a tour of the recently opened WYSO Center for Music located on Madison's near-east side on the site of the old Avenue Bar. This architecturally impressive building has a state-of-the-art rehearsal space for orchestras and ensembles of all sizes, studio teaching spaces for area musicians, administrative offices, and a music library.
More than 500 young musicians from communities throughout southern Wisconsin currently participate in WYSO’s programs. WYSO offers a full array of the finest orchestral training and performance opportunities to musicians between the ages of 5 and 18. Three full orchestras, two string orchestras, and a variety of ensemble programs from Harp to Percussion to Brass Choir form the core of the WYSO Orchestral Program.
Transportation Options:
Bus - WYSO is on Madison Metro's Route A and Route B which run every 15 minutes; exit at the Ingersoll/E. Washington stop.
Bicycle - Bike racks are available.
Car - Visitors can park on E. Washington Avenue directly in front of the building or in the WYSO lot. The lot immediately to the east of the WYSO building is the AVIS rental car lot. Immediately to the east of the AVIS lot is the WYSO lot which is unmarked but has a sign at the East Washington entrance that says "No parking any time". WYSO has given us permission to park in that lot for our tour.
